USF Dining and the USF Office of Sustainability conducted The Weigh the Waste Project at Juniper Dining Hall on Oct. 21 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the breakfast and lunch schedules. Pre- and post- consumer waste was sorted into three categories, recyclable, compostable, and only trash. The trash was then weighed, and the information was recorded in a spreadsheet. More than 180 people participated in the project and over 56 pounds of waste was recorded. This data will be used to improve waste disposal methods and study student consumption and disposal patterns. This activity will also be an educational physical demonstration about food waste, and will help raise awareness of Campus Sustainability Day. View the USF Oracle article here.
