PSGS Awarded Funds From World Bank
Dec 20, 2011
The Patel School of Global Sustainability has been awarded funds from the World Bank Group to conduct an Integrated Urban Water Management project in Africa. The project will take place in three African countries: Cameroon, Uganda and Kenya, over the span of three months.
Part of the award money was used to send PSGS research members Kebreab Ghebremichale and Seneshaw Tsegaye to Mbale and Arua in Uganda for diagnostics and data collection in early December. Staff members from the National Water and Sewage Corporation (NWSC) of Uganda accompanied Tsegaye and Ghebremichale during their trip. The group met with several government officials, NWSC regional and head office managers, consultants and several individuals that are involved in urban water management and urban planning.
“Essentially, we want to improve how cities function,” said Tsegaye, following his return from Uganda. “The project will initiate a stakeholder engagement process and an assessment of the current and future conditions in the city.”
Partners involved on the project include, ICLEI European Secretariat GmbH, ICLEI Africa Secretariat and the National Water and Sewage Corporation (Uganda).
